SCENE TWENTY
AMYâs bedroom. Night. The loud sound of crickets. A candle is burning next to the bed. AMY can be seen through the now transparent scrim. She looks deeply troubled and moves about restlessly. She unbuttons her blouse and takes it off to reveal a chemise. She hangs the blouse over the back of the chair. She takes off her skirt to reveal a white half-petticoat. She drapes it over the chair. She remains standing, deeply pensive, with her back to the audience as the lights fade to black.
In the black the crickets fade to very low and the haunting sound of an African nightjar can be heard intermittently and from changing distances throughout the next scene.
